Recommended for ages 3 to 4
Class duration is 45 minutes, once a week
An introduction to the expressive and joyful world of dance, this
class develops self-expression, coordination, basic rhythm, and
listening skills. Musical instruments, basic ballet exercises and
movement, along with age appropriate activities and games engage the
student’s attention and imagination.
Pre-Ballet
and Tap
Recommended for ages 4 to 6
Class duration is 45 minutes, once a week
This class provides a fun and creative introduction to ballet and
tap. Beginning ballet vocabulary, steps and exercises are
incorporated, while rhythm and body coordination are developed
through learning the basics of tap. This class continues to
emphasize musicality and self-expression.
Ballet and Tap
Recommended for ages 5 to 7
Class duration is I hour, once a week
This class builds on the lessons begun in Pre-Ballet and Tap.
Students will continue to focus on rhythm, coordination, expanding
their dance vocabulary, correct posture, musicality and creativity.
This class will also prepare students to appear onstage, encouraging
self-confidence and disciplined movement.
Ballet
Fundamentals I
Recommended for ages 7 to 8
Class duration is 1 hour, once a week
Ballet Fundamentals I begins to introduce ballet technique. While
continuing the basics and becoming comfortable with barre exercises,
students will begin to learn simple jumps and combinations.
Coordination, and correct posture are emphasized.
Ballet
Fundamentals II
Recommended for ages 8 to 9
Class duration is 1 hour, once a week
Ballet Fundamentals II builds on the work done in Ballet
Fundamentals I. The basic techniques and steps learned previously
are expanded on, while introducing balances and turns.
Self-confidence on stage, attention to correction, and increased
familiarity with classical ballets and music are all encouraged.
Correct stretching is emphasized, teaching students to be able to
safely stretch and warm upindependently.
Ballet Fundamentals III
Recommended for ages 9-10
Class duration is 1 hour, once a week
Ballet Fundamentals III continues to build on the work in the
previous two classes. Self-discipline and technique are emphasized
while continuing to practice the skills students have learned, with
more specific attention given to correct body placement, control and
motion. Students will also begin to learn to recognize classical
composers and ballets.
Ballet I
Recommended for ages 10 to 12
Class Duration is 1 hour, twice a week
Ballet I builds on the groundwork laid in the Ballet Fundamentals
classes. Students work towards perfecting basic steps. Longer
combinations, and more difficult turns and jumps are introduced.
Confidence and the enjoyment of dance as an art form are encouraged.
Ballet II
Recommended for ages 12 to 14
Class duration is 1 ½ hour, twice a week
In Ballet II students continue to practice and perfect their basic
and intermediate skills. With the permission of Miss Gail, students
may begin to work on pointe.
Ballet III
Recommended for ages 14 to 16
Class duration is 1½ to 2 hours, two to three times a week
In Ballet III, students become more comfortable dancing on pointe.
Confidence and discipline are emphasized, and dancers learn more
about coordinating with each other.
Students continue to practice good technique, improving steps and
combinations. Classical ballet variations are also introduced.
Ballet IV
Recommended for ages 16 and up
Class duration is 1½ to 2 hours, two to four times a week
Ballet IV builds on all the skills perfected in previous classes.
Students learn classical ballet variations and ensemble pieces.
Independent stretching continues and students are encouraged to
discuss their artist ideas as well as develop artistic expression as
they dance.
Modern Dance I
This is an introduction to modern dance with Hawkins technique.
Modern emphasizes the development of core strength, creativity and
center work.
Modern Dance
II
More advanced modern students continue to develop their modern dance
steps and skills while learning more about improvisation and
pursuing a well-rounded understanding of dance as an art form.
Adult Ballet
Whether you are a beginner, advanced or relearning your steps, this
is a great class for curious adults. This class focuses on
stretching, musicality, and barre work. It emphasizes working at
individual paces and finding the joy in dance.
Adult Tap I
This class is for adults who have never tried tap before. Students
learn basic steps and rhythms in a low stress environment. This
class emphasizes aerobic work and fun, while mastering basic tap
technique.
Adult Tap II
This class is for adults who have some familiarity with tap.
Students refine their technique while getting an aerobic workout.
This class keeps the low stress environment of Adult Tap I and gets
into more complicated steps and combinations.
Adult Tap III and Stretch
This class combines the fun and active dance style of tap with more
focused stretching and flexibility training. Students work on tap
technique, steps and combinations. This class also emphasizes
musicality and creativity.
